Music - What do you think about it?
Do you listen to it? What kind do you like? Does God care what you listen too? Is that the only issue? You know, whether God cares? Well, i may have some perspectives that you've never thought about, or maybe you have. i've tried really hard not to offend people, so if you're offended, i'm sorry. i tried.
i like classic rock. No, i love it. i've been listening to it my whole life. It was just called rock & roll when i started listening to it. There's so many types of rock now that it's called classic rock these days. For sure, there is a lot of classic rock that speaks of things that aren't good, but is the genre bad? That is not exactly my point though. Does God love the rock & roll artist? Well, i think that's an easy one. God loves us in the middle of our sin, no matter what it is. That's not really the question for me. This isn't really a discussion about if God allows us or approves/disapproves of what we listen to. It's more of a discussion of what our perspective is on how we live, what we focus on & how we spend our time. Not really on what we enjoy. i can enjoy many things, but is that really what i spend my time doing? Just things i enjoy? That's getting closer to what this discussion is about.
When you think about music; secular or christian, what's the real issues for you? Is it your personal style or your personal groove or your whatever? In many ways i've always chosen classic rock as my preferred genre of music over christian music, because i love it & it's part of who i am. You know, it's been with me all my life. Again, it's part of who i've always been. You can play a rock & roll song from the 70's or 80's & most of the time i can tell you what the group is, what year it came out, who the band members are & probably some of there history. i just want you to understand that i really like classic rock. i probably will always love it. i guess i've made my point.
Okay, i'm not finished yet. If you've read any of my previous post, you know that they have been based on my belief in God, his love for us & our relationship with him. i've established what i enjoy. Now i want to talk about christian music. i've heard discussions on many issues about christian music. Some say that we should only listen to music coming straight from scripture, others think we should listen exclusively to christian music just as long as it's about God, still others think that it doesn't matter what we listen to just as long as we believe in God. That's only a few beliefs in reference to music we listen to. i think christian music written by whoever are our songs to God & about God from his creation. i think it's a beautiful thing. Sure we may not agree with everything a christian song says at times, but we are a sinful people crying out to our God. i personally think that God loves to hear his children sing.
Now, here's my personal experience. When i listen to certain songs, they take me to a place that i want & need to be. It's not to a fairy tale land or a place that's unrealistic. It's a place where i feel the presence of God, where i get a glimpse of how much God loves me, a place where i want to spend all my time. You may know what i'm talking about. You may have better words to describe it. All i can say is that's where i want to be. i've attached a song below that takes me there. The first time i heard this song, it was playing with a clip from "Passion of the Christ". Please click on link below.

Wow, that's what i'm talking about. That is God. The one who came to earth because he loves us. What's important to you? What are you about? What do you spend your time dwelling on? That is my Jesus. The one who i follow. i'm not ashamed. Are you?
